This RFID or EPC technology is also called Auto-ID, and permits identification of tagged items. Large buyers of goods, including Wal Mart, and the US Department of Defense, have issued directives to their suppliers that goods must have RFID tags. Most of these deadlines are targeted before 2006. With Wal-Mart's mandate for top suppliers to be compliant by January 1,2005, demand for RFID expertise in the market has exploded. RFID helps make the supply chain efficient, safe and secure by tracking, reducing threats of counterfeiting, tampering and terrorism while increasing regulatory compliance.
