Travellers leaving home and heading off around the world will now find it easier to keep in touch with friends and family back home, thanks to a new online service called Off Exploring.
After months of trials by backpackers in Australia, Africa, and South America, all of whom have found it an invaluable way of staying in contact, the site has now been finalised and launched to the public.
Off Exploring provides personal travel websites - an area exclusively for writing about a trip and sharing the experience with loved ones at home. But you don't need to be an "internet geek" or a "computer whiz" -- the easy to use trip editor is suitable for net novices - people who normally wouldn't know where to begin when it comes to making a website, but want to take advantage of the technology available to help them keep in touch with their mates.
As part of their homepage travellers get: online postcards, unlimited photo storage, personalised maps, a two-way message board, and a permanent record of their trip.
Founder Andrew Ace set up the site for his own use while backpacking around Australia and South East Asia. I was constantly writing emails," he says. It took forever and Id usually forget someone. So I built a website that left me time to concentrate on enjoying myself! My friends loved it as they could all see what I was up to, complete with photos to prove it!
Off Exploring are expecting a huge response from the tens of thousands of Brits who go backpacking each year, and are giving away a limited number of sites for the first 3 months only. After this there will be a small charge of 20 per year to use the service.
