Illinois Masons Gather in Springfield Illinois

On Friday and Saturday, October 9 & 10, 2003 in Springfield, Illinois Hundreds of Illinois Freemasons will be gathering to hold their Grand Lodge Session at the Springfield Convention Center. This session is taking place amidst much controversy in the rank and file membership.    

Recently, those who currently hold office in the organization have been circumventing long standing traditions and by-laws of their own constitution by granting personal favors to some wishing admittance to the group without consideration of the voting rights of the existing membership.

This 164th Convention of the Masons is expected to be one of challenges of the younger members to the authority of the aged leadership. This debate between Masons is expected to be a raucous affair similar to the contentious gathering held in Peoria ten years ago where the excesses of a similarly minded Executive Officer was answered with his removal.

Public demonstrations are scheduled.
