Ryan-Biggs Associates P.C. Commemorates Thirtieth Anniversary
Engineering Firm Celebrates Continued Success and Expansion
Troy, NY and West Chester, PA-- October 9, 2003 -- Ryan-Biggs Associates, P.C., consulting firm specializing in structural engineering, today announced its 30th anniversary as a company in private practice. During the past three decades, the company has grown by helping clients throughout the Northeast achieve their business objectives through professional-grade planning, design services, and quality engineering.
Founded in 1973 by Tom Ryan as J. Thomas Ryan Engineering, the firm has grown to establish itself as a leading firm specializing in structural engineering and industrial facilities. After 5 years of continued success as J. Thomas Ryan Engineering, David Biggs joined the firm as the second principal, and the name was changed to Ryan-Biggs Associates. With the Corporate Office now located in Troy, NY, Ryan-Biggs Associates employs a staff of 33, including 20 engineers. The current principals are David Biggs, Dan Rogers, and Paul Rouis; Tom Ryan retired in 1998 and currently serves as a consultant to the firm.
In the past three years, branch offices were opened in West Chester, PA, and Skaneateles, NY. These additions assist the firm in providing design services to clients in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the Central and Western New York regions. With the expanded offices, plans to hire additional staff are being made to support projects throughout the Northeast.

The continued success of Ryan-Biggs is demonstrated by the many awards it has received, including several from Masonry Construction Magazine including its Best-Historic Restoration Award for the New York State Education Building, two awards from the Central New York Chapter of the American Concrete Institute for Martha Van Rensselaer, a national award for the Smith Road Covered Bridge from the American Consulting Engineers Council., and an Innovation award from the American Institute of Steel Construction for the Scranton Pennsylvania Federal Courthouse.
Articles authored by Ryan-Biggs and published in magazines such as Structure, Masonry Magazine, Modern Steel Construction, and Masonry Construction, along with numerous publications and presentations for conferences such as the International Bridge Conference, North American Masonry Conference, and British Masonry Society, have established Ryan-Biggs as experts in the field of structural engineering. Firm and individual recognition have also come from such professional organizations as the American Concrete Institute, American Society of Civil Engineers, Capital District Masonry Institute, American Consulting Engineers Council, American Institute of Steel Construction, and the New York State Association of Consulting Engineers. A recent, notable recognition was the selection of David Biggs, President of Ryan-Biggs, to participate as part of the Building Performance Assessment Team that developed the World Trade Center disaster report for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
