Maynard Announces Appointment of Kenneth E. Smith, President to Advisory Boards
Maynard is pleased to announce the appointment of Kenneth E. Smith, President of H. B. Maynard and Company, Inc. to the University of Pittsburgh Industrial Engineering Department (IED) Visiting Committee and the Grove City College Entrepreneurship Advisory Council (EAC).
Maynard is pleased to announce the appointment of Kenneth E. Smith, President of H. B. Maynard and Company, Inc. to the University of Pittsburgh Industrial Engineering Department (IED) Visiting Committee and the Grove City College Entrepreneurship Advisory Council (EAC).
As a member of the University of Pittsburgh IED Visiting Committee, Smith will assist the department in incorporating industrial engineering concepts across the curriculum and help to ensure that students are taught how to integrate all concepts with a system-level approach. The Visiting Committee is critical to establishing the foundation for a world-class department and furthering the ongoing accreditation process for the University of Pittsburgh.
Smith will also serve as an advisor to the departments Sponsor An Industrial Engineering Team (SAINT) program. In this capacity, Ken will help to bring a sponsors perspective to program enhancement and to recruit regional businesses to participate in the program. Maynard has participated as a sponsor in the SAINT program since its inception.
Smith is a 1984 graduate of Grove City College with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Computer Systems. As a member of the Grove City College Entrepreneurship Advisory Council, Smith will serve with other successful business leaders to assist the college with the newly-created Entrepreneurship Program, a major that became available in September 2003. The EAC will provide guidance in regards to undergraduate curriculum and overall direction. Another core objective of the EAC is to create networking opportunities for entrepreneurship students, with each member serving as an invaluable connection for the students to additional resources and/or individuals who can add value to their learning experience.
Smith joins both the University of Pittsburgh Industrial Engineering Department Visiting Committee and the Grove City College Entrepreneurship Advisory Council with relevant industrial engineering and business experience. Ken has spent his entire career with Maynard, starting as a Customer Service Representative in Maynard's Computer Services Division. In 1986 he moved into the Consulting Division. As a consultant, his work focused on productivity improvement through the application of traditional industrial engineering techniques, including the development and maintenance of engineered labor standards, methods improvement, job evaluation, wage administration, maintenance management, wage incentives, and performance management. Ken provided consulting services to over 150 companies throughout the United States, Canada, Japan, Sweden, France and the United Kingdom.
In 1995, he was promoted to Vice President of Operations and was elected to the Board of Directors. In 2001, Ken was elected President of Maynard. In this role, Smith is responsible for setting strategic direction, overseeing operations, and leadership development for all employees.
When asked about the recent appointments to the University of Pittsburgh IED Visiting Committee and the Grove City College Entrepreneurship Advisory Council, Smith replied It is my hope that I can positively impact both of these programs by championing the importance of leadership development and integrating real world experiences with classroom study."
Ken is actively involved in a number of professional and charitable organizations including the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the Association of Manufacturing Excellence, the Pittsburgh Technology Council, the Coalition of Christian Outreach and Family Guidance, Inc. He serves on the boards of Jubilee Christian School and Christ Community Church of the South Hills.
