The 52nd conference of Liberal International (the worldfederation of liberal parties) will be held in Dakar, Senegal from 23 till 25 October.

The theme of the conference is: ˇ§Islam and the West:: A liberal viewˇ¨. Openingspeeches will be held by:

„h Annemie NEYTS-UYTTEBROECK, President of Liberal International
„h Abdoulaye WADE, President of Senegal
„h Chen SHUI-BIAN, President of Taiwan
„h Jose RIZO CASTELLAN, Vice-President of Nicaragua
„h Anton ROP, Prime Minister of Slovenia

Minister MICHEL, Belgian Foreign Affairs Minister, will be present and speak to the conference.

At the same venue and the same time LI will elect its new President and bureau. Annemie NEYTS, present President, Belgian Minister of State and Member of Parliament, is the sole candidate for the presidency.

LI has 81 memberorganisations (parties) in 54 countries. In 29 different democratic countries Liberal International is presented by a memberorganisation in government.
