October 11, 2003. Huntingdon Valley. PA. Proteus Records is proud to announce the release of An American Song" the brand new CD from Rob Sobol, the former lead singer and songwriter of SocialVoyeurs, the Philadelphia-based band that won on StarSearch and was known for its topical and strongly melodic songs. The CD is now available at www.cdbaby.com/cd/sobol.
Robs new CD features stunning songs written in a lean unadorned style that sounds like Peter Gabriel meets early Elton John. Like Alanis Morrissette, Leann Rhimes, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and countless others before him, Rob would be honored to take a place among graduates of that show in the pantheon of successful entertainment stars.
From An American Song," about struggling through adversity, to Mothers Arms," based on the Elian Gonzales saga and rapidly written in a torrent of tears late one summer night, and from 1977 (Free Zone)" a reworking of his StarSearch winning song with other material, to Into the Blue," about endings of relationships, Rob does not shy away from probing the inner workings!
With a sense for melody and classically-influenced but pop piano work, Rob is glad to see the flourishing of a new melodic musical era evidenced by artists as diverse as Coldplay, Vanessa Carlton and Lauryn Hill. He is preparing to launch a new phase in his musical career after a period of intense songwriting and introspection.
Rob is now available for print and television press interviews. Hear about how Rob overcame adversity, won StarSearch before he was a star, and is now ready to sing his own personal anthems to the world.
