The Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) presents
A Taste of the African Diaspora
A memorable evening filled with vibrant energy and visual pleasures.
Honorary Co-Chairs: Nancy Wilson and Danny Glover
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 13 2003--On Monday, December 1, the Board of Directors of the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) will present A Taste of the African Diaspora at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The museum is currently under construction in the St. Regis Museum Tower next to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA.) and is scheduled to open in 2005.
A Taste of the African Diaspora will capture the overwhelming beauty and diversity of the African Diaspora through imagery, entertainment and food. The African Diaspora has many faces and the museum staff will recreate these elements to present a memorable evening filled with vibrant energy and visual pleasures. Guests will sample offerings from restaurants that specialize in food from the Diaspora, boogie to world fusion music and get a sneak peek of upcoming MoAD programs. The evening will be filled with the magic and traditions of the African Diaspora.
This inaugural event for the museum is two fold. It is an opportunity to thank Mayor Willie L. Brown, Jr. for his work on behalf of the museum over the past four years and to introduce the museum, the staff and the exciting schedule of collaborative programming planned with a myriad of cultural organizations.
Although the museum is not scheduled to open until 2005, MoAD has scheduled several collaborations with other cultural institutions in 2004 including Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the California Historical Society. The exhibitions include Black President: The Art and Legacy of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and Steel Drum Festival.
Pat Johnson, Executive Director, MoAD says, "We believe the African Diaspora - literally a scattering of the people of Africa far from their ancestral homelands - affords us an amazing opportunity to show us the interconnected ness of all people."
