BITTERSWEET MOMENTS
Questions and answers to parenting and life issues

WILMETTE, ILLINOIS- When authors Derek and Gail Randel M.D. were confronted with a big decision involving their 15-year-old son, they had no choice but to follow their hunches and instincts. ÒWe were frightened and felt we had no further options at home. We acted on blind faith,Ó the couple confessed. Bittersweet Moments is their latest book following The Parent Manual , Derek and Gail using a question and answer format give parents much to consider.
ÒParent Smart From The HeartÓ is the name of their program that teaches to parent from inspiration rather than frustration. ÒBy changing how we respond to different issues,Ó the authors write, Òyour children will also change how they respond. Our goal is to help you enjoy your childrenÉÓ Drawing on their actual experiences, the couple designed easy-to-follow techniques to enhance and develop parent-child relationships.

Bittersweet Moments provides ample tools and resources for parents. Particularly, it empowers parents while teaching them effective ways to respond to various issues on parenthood, such as, why do we invite strangers into our childrenÕs bedroom? Issues such as television, instant messaging, and the Internet are addressed. ÒWe have taken two programs, Love and Logic and Jack CanfieldÕs Self-Esteem Seminars and combined them with our program to come up with Parent Smart From The Heart. We are helping parents before and after they get to the point of frustration. Parenting can be and should be fun,Ó the couple explains.

The authors also give emphasis on the importance of love and respect in building solid relationships. ÒIn our home, our message of love is felt while allowing our children to live with their decisions, regardless if these decisions were right or wrong. This is accomplished without yelling or feeling like weÕre walking on egg shells.Ó

Derek Randel holds a Master degree in secondary education and an economics degree from the University of Michigan, He taught high school and middle school for 12 years and was nominated for a Disney American Teacher Award. He recently was seen on Fox News ChannelÕs ÒThe OÕReilly Factor.Ó

Gail Randel is a practicing anesthesiologist and has spoken nationally on various medical issues. She fervently believes that love, touch, and communication skills are the keys to wellness and effective parenting.
