FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
SoCaseTools, Inc. Announces SodaPop, a New Software Development Technology for Collaborative Software Development and Code Reuse.
San Jose, CA, October 13, 2003 - SoCaseTools, Inc. announces the first commercially available, Subject Oriented Java development tool for source code composition. The tool named SodaPop enables developers to merge two separate software designs directly across the source code. Now enterprises can outsource software projects by decentralizing their software development teams, making the design process more intuitive and easier to understand and the source code more flexible and reusable. SodaPop can be used to isolate individual development tasks which enable outsourcing even of sensitive projects. It complements current development tools and processes, and is easily adaptable into existing software projects because it uses and creates only standard Java code and requires no new technical skills.
Collaborative software development - the development of software over a physical, organizational, or cultural distance - is becoming increasingly important in today's IT world. Even within an organization, there is scarcely a software project that isnt collaborative in nature. By 2004, more than 80 percent of U.S. companies will have considered using offshore IT services, and more than 40 percent of U.S. corporations will have completed some type of offshore IT pilot program or will be using IT services with an overseas component.
Participants in collaborative projects know all to well the ineffectiveness of todays technology. They require a high degree of coordination and control and project groups are forced to plan and work in a highly centralized process. This makes collaboration within the projects communication intensive, costly, and time consuming," explained Evan Slatis, CTO of SoCaseTools. What is needed today is new technology and techniques to decentralize and simplify modern enterprise application development, where collaborative projects are common. SodaPop addresses this demand."
SodaPop utilizes a new concept called collaborative refactoring". Refactorings, defined as behavior-preserving source-to-source program transformations, currently only work across single, monolithic projects. Subject oriented programming with SodaPops source code composition technology allows developers collaborating within a project to refactor one set of code specifically for composing another set of sources together; thus, collaborative refactoring.
"SodaPop can change the way a whole industry approaches their software projects. Communication overhead and costs of outsourcing projects will be reduced dramatically and sensitive information can remain in the core development group rather than spread out in the field," said Uli Theissen, president and CEO of SoCaseTools. With SodaPop, the rules of how software modules interact with each other are no longer imposed at the beginning of a project but only after each module is completed. This enables developers to independently work on their assignments within a project and to reuse code that has already been developed."
