California Company Enters High Fashion World...of DUCT TAPE?
Hollywood, CA (October 14, 2003) -- Duct tape isnt just for fighting terrorism and fixing leaking pipes says Los Angeles-based artisan and humor writer Scott Leva after he realized last year that his favorite leather wallet was just about two duct tape strips away from finally being retired. Starting from scratch, he realized that he could not only fashion wallets entirely out of duct tape but began experimenting with other products typically constructed from heavier fabrics. Soon came belts, purses, backpacks and even two-piece swimsuits.
Things changed quickly when Leva turned to the fashion industry for help. Enlisting the best young designers based in the entertainment capital of the world, he sent each artist a case of duct tape (now available in every color of the rainbow) and let their imaginations run wild. Well-known designers, celebrities and even animal activists heard about the experiment and jumped on board. Many understood for the first time the amazing flexibility of duct tape that plumbers and hardware fanatics had been extolling for years -- duct tape has the strength of steel, the flexibility of fine fabric and even resists heat and cold.
Says Leva, If you happen to drop your duct tape wallet in the swimming pool, it will float for hours -- maybe even days. I think that says a lot."
