Conference to Help Non-Profits Get Connected to Technology

The Information Technology (IT) Project of the New Jersey Association of Mental Health Agencies, Inc. (NJAMHA) will hold its annual technology conference on Wednesday and Thursday, November 12 and 13, 2003 at the Clarion Hotel and Convention Center Atlantic City West in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. The conference, Get Connected 2 IT, will focus on the technology needs of non-profit organizations, needs that are often overlooked by other conferences.

Due to the precarious financial situations of many non-profits, investment in information technology is not usually a high priority," says June A. Noto, Director, IT Project. However, properly planning for IT can save an organization big money over the long term. This conference will help non-profits learn how IT can save them money and where they can begin to find the right solutions."

Workshops and presentations for Get Connected 2 IT will focus on a wide spectrum of issues, including saving money by using Linux, security, privacy, mobile computing, technology planning, VPNs, Directory Technologies, and Voice Over IP (VoIP). Each topic and speaker has been specially selected based on the needs of IT Project clients and other non-profit organizations.

For over 18 years, NJAMHAs IT Project has been working with the New Jersey Division of Mental Health Services to serve the technology needs of more than 200 mental health agencies throughout the state. Through the IT Project, these agencies receive expert Information Technology services, including complete business analyses, consultation, long-range planning, networking and technical support, training, discounts on hardware and software, and purchase recommendations. Earlier this year, the IT project recognized that all non-profits struggle to implement IT and expanded its mission to include them, as well.

Technology today encompasses not only desk-top computers, but satellite, cable television, PDAs, and Internet," adds Ms. Noto. All of these products, and others, hold great promise for mental health providers, if they only knew how to integrate them into their business. Thats were we can help."
