If the building suddenly shakes, objects frantically fly and walls move, dont panic, it is just October on Main Street in downtown Duryea.
During the month of October, The Greater Pittston Arts Center and Applause Theatre Group will turn its permanent theatrical residence into Chambers of Fear Haunted House".
A haunted house was the perfect choice for our first big fundraising event.," states Bill Falzone, president and technical director of Applause Theatre. The building is a maze of rooms and staircases; it is a natural space for a haunted house."

The event site at 409 Main Street Duryea is the location of the former Kurlanchek Furniture building. The original corner structure was constructed around 1920, the building has been added on to through the years, turning a normal corner store into almost a half block of spiraling space. Even in the daylight the 15,000 square foot two-story building is a place in which you can easily get lost. The seventeen rooms twist, and then turn into dark hallways and secret closets. Several staircases enhance your confusion. If you take an unescorted walk through the second floor, you will feel like you can never find your way out. The atmosphere with out props and sets is truly haunting. We have been in the building for 4 months now and most people still get lost!" says Applause Theatre founding member Wally Kulick, You need a map to tour all our performance spaces, and even then, you will still be lost."

Albert Einstein once said, "The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science." The debut of NEPAs newest Halloween Spooktacular" event will certainly involve both theatre arts and technical craft. Approximately 40 actors and 15 technicians who will be dedicated to terrorizing all who cross their paths will staff Chambers of Fear". We have been calling them The Boo Crew".", Falzone states. We have all the normal theatrical terror: mummies, zombies, witches and vampires. I cant tell you much about the special effects or the main characters, we want to keep them a surprise." Falzone adds, The set will be first class, we have secured the services of over a dozen professional construction workers
to help prepare the construction for this extravaganza. I can tell you, that you will get lost in the fog, our lights and sound will be the best in the area."

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                
It takes about 25-35 Minutes to go through the chambers 17 ghostly rooms. Each of the chambers is haunted by the poltergeists of classic horror movies. To set the tone for the events, Edgar Allen Poe will return from the grave and recite his famous works in the glass storefront window of the main street location. There will also be ghouls and goblins entertaining outside the venue as the guests wait in line to enter. The Staircase Lounge will host concessions stands that will sell Ghost Dogs" and Ghoul Juice" (hot dogs and soft drinks) as well as other food items.
Falzone says, We are expecting long lines and we want everyone to be entertained from the time the get in line to the time they enter The Chamber of Fear".

Children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The event is not recommended for children under 8 years of age. The haunting starts on the first day of the October full moon; Friday October 10, 2003, though not continuous, will run until October 31, 2003.

Chambers of Fear" are full of tricks, surprises, illusions, and thrills guaranteed to scare even the bravest of souls. The floors are uneven, you will be enveloped by creeping fog and vapors, ghouls, monsters, and other demons of the night will leap out at you, you will be cast into total darkness and subjected to loud noises. There are NO REFUNDS once tickets are purchased. Not recommended for children under age 8.
