Triads, Yardies And Onion Bhajees! (Once Upon A Time In Southall) -- November 2003 Release
Controversial British Asian gangster film TRIADS, YARDIES AND ONION BHAJEES! (Once Upon A Time In Southall) will be on the big screen from November 2003.
TYOB has met with huge critical acclaim since its world premiere at this years Cannes Film Festival. Following on from Cannes the movie was selected for the Bite The Mango Film Festival, Bradford Film Festival and the Far Out Far East Film Festival.
TYOB has been slammed by older members of Britains Asian community as being too violent" and showing Asians in a negative light" but the makers of TYOB stand by their initial viewpoint that they have made a movie that will inspire people to lead a life away from crime.
The film centres around the Holy Smokes crime syndicate who are based in Southall, west London. The gang get caught up in a $6 million robbery from Heathrow Airport -- a part of the film that was inspired by real-life events. Hot on the trail of the missing money are rival Chinese, Jamaican and English gangs.
TYOB has many elements that have made it a winner among arthouse cinema fans. It weaves the mythology of the Hindu godess of death, Kali, with modern day life in multicultural London.
The critics have seen it, reviewed it and praised it... now comes the moment of truth. The general public will finally have their chance to see TYOB.
