U.S. Poised to Experience "Gen-Y" Baby Boom - New study finds more than 90% of 18-24-year-old women plan on motherhood

Generation Y women have motherhood on their minds, and if their intentions bear out, the U.S. will experience a baby boom to rival that of the post-World War II population explosion.

New York, (PRWEB) October 18, 2003 --- Generation Y women have motherhood on their minds, and if their intentions bear out, the U.S. will experience a baby boom to rival that of the post-World War II population explosion.

According to The U.S. Mom Market, a study released today by Packaged Facts and Silver Stork Research, 92% of women age 18-24 (Gen-Y) are or plan to be mothers, with one in three already mothers. Nearly half of 18-24 year old women who are mothers or plan to be anticipate giving birth by 2008. The results of this survey indicate that given the size of the Gen-Y population, there could be a 17% increase in the birth rate over the next 10 years.

"Never before has motherhood been celebrated as it is today" said Marta Loeb, president of Silver Stork Research and the author of the report. "A new generation of self-sufficient, successful and family-focused women is reinventing motherhood and we are seeing the impact of this change everywhere ... in the media, at retail and in the board room."

According to Loeb, marketers cannot afford to overlook mothers, as they control 80% of household spending and are the chief influencer of brands and products purchased for their children.
