David R. Okrent Earns 'Man of Spirit' Award
LI Coalition for Aging Honors Attorneys Commitment to the Field of Aging
Dix Hills, NY...October 14, 2003...David R. Okrent, JD, CPA, has been named 2003 Man of Spirit" by the Long Island Coalition for Aging (LICA) for his commitment to the field of aging and his outstanding dedication to the senior population." The Award will be presented at LICAs annual Advocate Through Caring" Cocktail Reception to be held Wednesday, November 12, 6 p.m., at the Sheraton Long Island Hotel, Hauppauge. George Roach, Chief Attorney, Senior Citizens Bureau, County of Suffolk, and past President of the Suffolk Bar; and Assemblyman Steven Engelebright, Chair of the New York State Assembly Committee on Aging will be guest speakers at the event.
Mr. Okrent, managing attorney of Law Offices of David R. Okrent, Dix Hills, an attorney and CPA, is highly regarded as an expert on elder law and estate planning issues. An advocate for planning for an uncertain future," he has helped clients find solutions for the legal and financial challenges of aging in our society. From Medicaid to long-term care insurance to succession planning and asset management, Mr. Okrent has helped families, at all stages of their lives, negotiate the maze of rules, regulations and opportunities available to them as they look ahead to life changes.

Frequently called upon as a lecturer and writer, Mr. Okrent has been a guest speaker before senior groups, charities, government agencies and professional organizations. He was also the long-time co-host of WEVDs morning Elder Law and Senior Forum" radio program.
Mr. Okrent is the immediate past Co-Chair of the Suffolk County Bar Association Elder Law Committee and is an Advisory Member of the Suffolk County Bar Associations Academy of Law, which is its educational arm. He is a past Chair of the Suffolk Bars Tax Committee, a member of the New York State Bar Association and of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He is also a past Vice President and Education Co-Chair of the Long Island Eastern Chapter of the National Conference of CPAs and a past officer of the Association of Professional Financial Consultants.
His diverse community activities include serving on the Legal Advisory Board of the Long Island Alzheimers Foundation, on the Planned Giving Council of Good Samaritan Hospital and on the Advisory Board of Friends of Karen.
A member of the New York State Society of CPAs Estate Planning Committee, Mr. Okrent was recently appointed to the National Republican Congressional Committees Business Advisory Counsel, the Local Early Intervention Coordination Council for Suffolk County and the Steering Committee for Assemblyman Englebrights Senior Law Day.
He is a graduate of the School of Professional Accountancy, Long Island University, C.W. Post Campus, where he earned a B.S. in accounting, cum laude. He earned his JD degree, cum laude, from St. Johns University School of Law.
