Crossing the Pond: An Author's Story

First-time author T.G. Boyes finally makes it to print after 20 year publishing ordeal.

LONDON and LAS VEGAS, Nevada, Oct. 23 -- "I should have called my novel, 'Murphy's Law for Writers,'" said first-time novelist T.G. Boyes as he described his recently released first book, "Heirs of Fortune."

Nearly 20 years ago, Mr. Boyes made his initial voyage across the pond to begin researching the book. He spent a month in the UK and Western Europe creating the backdrop for an intensely intriguing cast of characters. After years of writing, Mr. Boyes made numerous attempts to find a publisher, but to no avail.

Finally, weary of the whole endeavor, he locked the manuscript in a safe for 13 years, until his family encouraged him to again begin his quest to become published. As an untested author, he finally found a home with Xlibris and Lightning Source UK.

"Writing a book this voluminous as a first-time author was a huge challenge -- creating the characters, building an accurate historical background for them and making it believable was quite a task. After 20 years, finally having the book in print is nothing short of a miracle," he said. Having it printed simultaneously in Great Britain by Lightning Source UK is great opportunity, especially since a large portion of the storyline is set in London.

"Heirs of Fortune" is an epic journey through the lives of three men: Giancarlo Costpini, Matthew Westfield, and an illegitimate son and heir to a fortune, Paul McDowell. Two of the men form an underworld alliance that makes them rich; the third is nearly destroyed and years later learns the hidden secrets of both his and his mentor's past.

"The book is rather a mix of 'The Godfather and 'The Winds of War', " Boyes commented."The characters are bred from the times and events which they live through -- the 20th century immigrant experience, prohibition, illegal bootlegging, international money laundering, organized crime, World War II political wrangling, adulterous and matrimonial relationships."

"Heirs of Fortune" zips from various international locations including London, New York, Havana, Zurich and Miami and is rich in historical detail and political intrigue.

Published through Xlibris, and printed in the UK by Lightning Source the book is available online at: Amazon.com, BN.com,Borders.com and through major reseller in the US and United Kingdom.
