THE WIZARD OF OZ VOCABULARY BUILDER Placed on New York City Board of Educations NYSTL List; Schools Line Up to Purchase the Revolutionary Word-Building Tool
In October 2003, THE WIZARD OF OZ VOCABULARY BUILDER (A. J. Cornell Publications) was reviewed and approved by the New York City Schools Instructional Materials Review Unit and placed on its prestigious NYSTL (New York State Textbook Law) list. This means that the book has been officially approved for use in New York City public schools and that New York City public school teachers can purchase the title with state funds.
Prior to this honor, THE WIZARD OF OZ VOCABULARY BUILDER had been ordered by various schools around the country, including:
• Bayside High School (Bayside, NY)
• Brentwood High School (Brentwood, NY)
• Cambridge Education Center (Great Neck, NY)
• Evangel Christian Academy (Shreveport, LA)
• High School for the Humanities (New York, NY)
• Los Angeles County Office of Education (Los Angeles, CA)
• Manhasset High School (Manhasset, NY)
• Salisbury School (Salisbury, CT)
• W. T. Clarke High School (Westbury, NY)
In other news, THE WIZARD OF OZ VOCABULARY BUILDER has been favorably reviewed by MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW and LIBRARY JOURNAL. Midwest Book Review (June 2003) calls the book a unique vocabulary building guide; a recommended and unforgettable skill-improvement tool; a useful tool for building an impressive vocabulary." And Library Journal (July 2003) said, the words under scrutiny stand out both on paper (they are printed in bold typeface) and in memory; a more natural method than learning words from lists."
Next up for A. J Cornell Publications is The Pinocchio Intermediate Vocabulary Builder, due out spring 2004. This book, which employs the same format as its predecessor, is aimed at upper elementary, middle school, and junior high school students and features 1,000 somewhat easier words.
