In the last five years, several books have been written about the history of Jamaican popular music. It has often been argued that similar documentation of Reggae's roots should be done from a Jamaican perspective.
Not many Jamaicans have written books on their country's pop music history. The two best-known are Bob Marley -- Reggae King of the World which was released in 1984 and co-written by respected musicologist/broadcaster, Dermott Hussey and American journalist Malika Lee Whitney; and 1998's Reggae Routes by Kevin O'Brien Chang and Wayne Chen.
Lou Gooden began work on Reggae Heritage 10 years ago. It was crafted out of his concern for the many distortions of Reggae's history by non-Jamaican authors.
This book is an Anthology of JamaicaÂs Music and Culture and should and must be owned by anyone who has an interest in the musical culture of not only Jamaica, but also America and Europe. It is the kind of book that could be compared to the family bible which is passed on to the next of kin. It is educational and some may find it entertaining. With phrases being made like ÂI didnÂt know that Â, ÂI always wondered Â, ÂThis is telling the truth  ÂThatÂs what happen in those days ? ÂHow could they have done that ? and ÂWhy he other books on this subject did not have the facts ?Â
The facts in this book will assist the students all over the world in a historical proportion, to bring them up to date on the culture, and history of not only Reggae Heritage, but other music of America and Europe.
