Author Tackles Black Gender Gap in New Book and Seminar Series

Author Darryl James has written a new book called "Bridging The Black Gender Gap," discussing Black dating issues. He has also launched a national seminar series by the same name. The first Seminar is in Los Angeles on November 22, at the LAX Hilton from 9-5.

Author Tackles Black Gender Gap in New Book and Seminar Series

The article in Newsweek Magazine, "The Black Gender Gap," penned by Ellis Cose in March of 2003 unleashed a firestorm of discussion, particularly among single Black men and women. On November 22, 2003, Tenacious Entertainment will present a seminar called Bridging The Black Gender Gap, based on a series of books by the same name.

   Bridging The Black Gender Gap, Volume I is a new mini-book based on years of research and more than twenty discussions with men and women regarding the growing number of unmarried Black women conducted by author Darryl James (Detectives Affair & The Los Angeles Riots: Three Decades of Revolution). James, through Tenacious Entertainment, is also organizing a series of seminars to initiate dialogue between men and women.

"The charge for each of us-men and women-is to begin to discuss the problems we both face, without expressing the fear and hatred that have been welling up inside of us," said James. "I want to facilitate healthy discussions with people who can provide qualified information and advice."

To facilitate pragmatic processing of dating issues, James has assembled psychiatrists/psychologists and a variety of panelists, including Keidi Obi Awadu, activist and radio host; Ryeal Sims, filmmaker and motivational speaker; Pastor Ben Stephens, Pastor of the Young Adult & Youth Ministry at West Angeles Church of God In Christ; Dr. E. Lance McCarthy, Ph.D, a national economist; Steve & Dawn Adams, of the Marriage Ministry at 1st Church of God; Group discussion facilitator Askia Muwwakil; Fleace Weaver (blackweekly.com), and Angel L. Gaines a relationship counselor who also appears in the book, Bridging The Black Gender Gap, Volume I.

"People usually have conflict because of the way that they process pain," said Gaines. "Once the root cause of the pain is discovered, individuals are able to understand another persons pain and work toward conflict resolution with them."

Bridging The Black Gender Gap, the seminar takes place on November 22, 2003, from 9am until 5pm at the Hilton Hotel at Los Angeles Airport, 5711 W. Century Blvd. The cost is $10 in advance and $15 day of Seminar.
