Top Selling Novel Skyrockets Amazon.com Rankings,
Depletes Entire Barnes and Nobel Warehouse Inventory
Escalating sales of the Rikki Lee Travolta novel "My Fractured Life" have completely depleted inventory at the world's leading bookselling giant Barnes and Nobel. Rival e-commerce Goliath Amazon.com has issued a special sale price to capitalize on demand.
LOS ANGELES (October 21, 2003) For the second time this year, skyrocketing sales have depleted the entire Barnes and Nobel inventory of the novel "My Fractured Life" by former child star Rikki Lee Travolta.
The Travolta book about the life of has-been actors and musicians in Hollywood has risen over 400,000 spots in the Barnes and Nobel sales rankings in the past three months.
Sales at Amazon.com have raced up the purchase-rankings over 800,000 positions between September and October alone. Amazon.com is the chief e-commerce competitor to Barnes & Nobel's Internet sales portal www.bn.com.
In response to its high sales, Amazon.com has completely replenished its inventory of Travolta's "My Fractured Life" four times during the month of October to meet consumer demands.
"My Fractured Life" is popular among those customers also purchasing top fiction sellers "The True Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd, "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides ("The Virgin Suicides"), and "The Life of Pi" by Yan Martel, as reported by Amazon.com.
In the nonfiction arena, Travolta's book is popular among those purchasing the New York Times bestsellers "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson and "The Kennedy Curse" by Edward Klein.
As a journalist Klein has been associated with "Newsweek," "The New York Times Magazine," "Vanity Faire," and "Parade." Following his work as a child actor and prior to his career as a novelist, Travolta's journalism writings were published by "Variety" publisher Cahners, "Guitar Player" publisher Miller Freeman, CMP Media, Business News Publishing, and James Informational Media.
Figures at from Barnes and Nobel's Internet storefront illustrate sales of "My Fractured Life" in common with John Grisham, author of "Runaway Jury" - a new film starring Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman. Grisham's other novels translated to film include "The Pelican Brief" starring Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington; "The Client" starring Susan Sarandon and Brad Renfro; and "The Firm" starring Tom Cruise, Holly Hunter, and Gary Busey.
Swelling "My Fractured Life" sales completely depleted media giant Barnes and Nobel's inventory on October 19, 2003. Until it is able to replenish its warehouse, Barnes and Noble is networking with outside book vendors "Known Books," "Books Anywhere," and "Aawesome Books Inc." in order to meet sales demands.
The bookseller had its first sellout of the breakout novel in August of 2003, following the announcement of the negotiation of its film rights with producers Dan Riley and Peter J. Clark.
Capitalizing on the demand for Travolta's "My Fractured Life,"Amazon.com is now running a special on the book, offering a 20% discount off retail pricing.
As accounted in "The Hollywood Reporter," Port Magee Pictures has acquired the exclusive pitch development rights on the Travolta book.
Travolta has starred theatrically throughout the world in "Tony n' Tina's Wedding," "West Side Story," and "Bye Bye Birdie." His film work includes "Twilight Serenade" and Ron Howard's "EDtv." As a vocalist, Travolta was listed on the 45th annual Grammy Awards nomination ballot in six categories including Pop and Rock. As a child actor, Travolta appeared in "Rumplestiltskin," "Oliver," "Member of the Wedding," and "A Christmas Carol."
