High-Tech Duo Unveil Clever Twist to Plush Toys

New plush animal toy with a twist

Millbrae, California -- October 2003. Two local Silicon Valley workers, looking for the next Bay Area innovation, may have found it in a unique plush animal toy line. First introduced at the International Toy fair in New York last year, Pair O Pals seeks to join the ranks of hot toy collectibles.

Pair O Pals are plush animals, 6-inches in height with a twist - they are reversible. Rather than one animal, there are two without zippers, velcro, or other detachable mechanisms. "We wanted to create something different, yet simple." said Tony Deblauwe, co-inventor. "We spent many hours with prototypes and enlisting the help of children for testing until we found material that we liked and an innovative idea."

The inventors partnered with BIG Idea Group in Manchester, New Hampshire to land its first customer, AVON. Excited by the progress, Deblauwe remarked, "When AVON signed on, we new the idea was a reality." The first batch of combinations include jungle-themed pairs like a Lion-Elephant as well as farm animals like Pig-Frog. Each Pal is constructed from a soft material perfect for snuggling by small children. Adults enjoy the toy as well using the reversible quality as a stress reliever.

Pair O Pals retail for approximately $6 each and can be found in a growing number of specialty gift stores nationwide, just in time for the 2003 holiday season.
