New Insurance Plan for Skiers & Snowboarders

Most season ski passes are a "use it or lose it" proposition because they generally are non-refundable. SKIER GUARD protects one's investment in a season pass if unexpected medical reasons prevent using the pass. It reimburses passholders on a pro-rata basis for the value of an unused season ski pass. Emergency Evacuation and Accidental Death/Dismemberment are also covered while skiing at the resort which issues the season pass.

COMPANY MARKETS SEASON PASS INSURANCE

Kalispell, Montana (PRWEB) October 20, 2003 -- Skiers and snowboarders who buy season passes now have the option of insuring them against loss of use due to sudden injury or illness. Skier Insurance Services (SIS) offer SKIER GUARD Season Pass Insurance to cross-country skiers and downhill skiers; coverage may be purchased online at 6% of the pass price for the 2003/04 season.

Season passes are an economical way for frequent skiers to pay for their sport. However, most resorts impose restrictions on passes, making them non-refundable and non-transferable. A passholder who is injured or falls ill can lose much or all of the use of a pass, which is often purchased well in advance of the ski season in order to take advantage of early bird" pricing. A skier who buys this insurance and cannot use the pass for at least 30 consecutive days can recoup the value of the unused portion of a season pass on a pro-rata basis.

This insurance package has never been available in the USA before" said Ron Iverson, president of SIS. Season passes can save skiers a lot of money but if they are not used enough they can turn out to be a poor investment." This program insures passholders in event of covered injury or illness. In addition, Emergency Evacuation Insurance up to $15,000 and Accidental Death/Dismemberment Insurance up to $10,000 is provided while skiing at the ski area which issues the season pass.

The insurance is available for season passes purchased from any ski area in the USA except those in New York and Oregon, where regulatory approval is pending. Ski areas can promote the plan by adding a link to their web sites which directs skiers to a site containing complete details and enrollment options. Passholders can also visit the site directly at www.skierguard.com

Ski areas promote our program because it is beneficial for them as well as for their customers. In fact, it may even help to increase the sale of season passes because Loss of Use coverage is provided up to two months before the ski season starts ... reassuring for anyone who buys a season pass in advance. The following resorts promote SKIER GUARD: Aspen Skiing Company, Diamond Peak, Eldora Mountain Resort, Heavenly, Mammoth Mountain, and Mountain Creek; many other ski areas plan to participate starting next Spring.

SIS is a division of Tourist Insurance Services, a leading provider of vacation insurance to the travel and resort industries. Coverage is underwritten by National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh, Pa. with its principal place of business in New York, NY. It is a member company of American International Group, Inc. Skier Insurance Services (SIS) is the program administrator. This is a brief description of the coverages available. Policies will contain reductions, limitations, exclusions, and termination provisions. Coverage is not available in FL, MD, NY, OR, NC, SC or TX at this time. Coverage will be available in Canada later this month.
