Death of Halloween is a Dramatic Look at a Crime So Foul that It Changed Halloween Forever.

Kim Sauke's new book Death of Halloween is a gripping exploration of the 1974 "Candyman" murder in Pasadena, Texas. A crime that shocked the nation and made parents everywhere think twice about sending their children out treat-or-treating.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (PRWEB) October 23, 2003 - Cork Hill Press of Indianapolis announced today the publication of Death of Halloween by Kim Sauke.

On the night of October 31, 1974 eight year-old Tim OBryan was rushed to the hospital suffering from seizures. After he died a few hours later suspicious foam formed around his mouth. This single death was to grip the surrounding community in panic and draw worldwide attention. Tim OBryan had died after eating poisoned Halloween candy, and Halloween was never the same again. Kim Saukes new book Death of Halloween is a spellbinding story of the murder, betrayal and forgiveness.

The city of Pasadena, Texas, a blue-collar suburb of Houston, was devastated by the death of Tim OBryan. Many panicked Houston-area parents dumped their childrens Halloween candy at local police stations. In total, the Pasadena police recovered five cyanide-laced Giant Pixie Stix. Each Stix contained enough cyanide to kill three adults. For years afterward the number of Houston treat-or-treaters dwindled to almost nil. All over America communities organized safe Halloween events in response to the OBryan murder.

After a painstaking investigation the Pasadena Police Department made an arrest that shocked the nation and left the already bruised community stunned. For the family and friends of Tim OBryan the nightmare only got worse. The murderer was committed by one of their own. The killer, dubbed the Candy Man, received the death penalty, and after several stays, was executed by lethal injection on March 31, 1984.

The story of Mary, Tims mother, serves as a counterpoint of good to the evil of the Candy Man. Mary, a devout Baptist, faced a religious dilemma as she did not believe in the death penalty. After much soul searching Mary came to terms with her sons murder and attempted to forgive the killer after almost thirty years of hardship and sorrow.
