Anthrax Scare Leaves Trail of Cipro Victims - Class Actions filed in Two States (Philadelphia Firm Charges Bayer with sickening anthrax exposed victims with Cipro and misleading marketing of the drug)
Philadelphia (OCTOBER 24, 2003) -The anthrax scare of 2001 has left a trail of Cipro victims who filed class actions complaints in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Philadelphia law firm, Sheller, Ludwig & Badey filed the actions Friday on behalf of United States Postal Service and American Media Incorporated employees, family members, and people employed at or near the United States Capital Complex, who ingested Cipro.
Cipro has been subject of much attention since the fall of 2001 when the presence of anthrax spores were discovered in a media building in Florida, government buildings in Washington, D.C. and numerous United States Postal Service facilities.
"The complaints allege that Cipro was speedily approved and heavily marketed as the drug of choice to treat anthrax exposure," said Caroline Reeves, Esquire, of Sheller, Ludwig & Badey. According to complaint allegations, exposed individuals were not informed of the availability of safer and equally effective alternative medications or of the high incidence of severe side effects associated with Cipro. The complaint further alleges that, as a result of taking Cipro, many individuals suffered severe and debilitating injuries.
All class members took Cipro for treatment of potential anthrax exposure. Their injuries include tendon rupture, severe tendon and joint injuries, CNS injuries, neurological injuries, cardiac and gastrointestinal injuries.
The complaints were filed today by Caroline Reeves, Esq., Stephen A. Sheller, Esq., and Jamie Sheller, Esq. in Camden, New Jersey and Philadelphia. The firm plans to file an additional complaint in Connecticut next week.
Sheller Ludwig & Badey (www.sheller.com) attorneys represent individuals and classes across the United States suffering from a diverse range of injuries resulting from medical treatment to defective products and machines to unfair business practices.
