SATstrategy.com Chooses THE WIZARD OF OZ VOCABULARY BUILDER for Its 10 Step Guide for Beating the SAT"
Out of hundreds of vocabulary-building books in print, the website SATstrategy.com recommends only two for raising your Verbal SAT score. One is THE WIZARD OF OZ VOCABULARY BUILDER.
The website SATstrategy.com has compiled a Free 10 Point Guide for Beating the SAT." According to the authors, all of whom have scored over 1500 on their own SATs and have taught SAT prep courses at Kaplan or Princeton Review, [This] is what we have found to be the most effective and efficient way to beat the SAT."
Of their ten steps, the first three and last two are in the nature of general advice (register early, decide whether you need a tutor, see the College Boards official publications, take a practice test, stay relaxed). The other five steps, recommendations of specific products (with time required for each step), are as follows:
Step 4 (10 weeks): Read Up Your Score: The Underground Guide to the SAT
Step 5 (6 weeks): Read Vocabulary Cartoons
Step 6 (2 weeks) : Read THE WIZARD OF OZ VOCABULARY BUILDER
A really painless and extremely effective way to learn words is with THE WIZARD OF OZ VOCABULARY BUILDER. This is a really funny story, so it is fun and even relaxing to read. It has SAT vocab words mixed into the story with definitions at the bottom of the page."
Step 7 (6 weeks): Use SAT Vocabulary Set 1, as set of 750 flashcards
Step 8 (6 weeks) : Read 100 Math Tips for the SAT & How to Master Them Now!
According to SATstrategy.com, THE WIZARD OF OZ VOCABULARY BUILDER (A. J. Cornell Publications) is not only the most effective vocabulary builder, but it requires by far the least amount of time to master and is the most painless (its even fun and relaxing!). What is interesting to note is that this books competition, vocabulary builders in the form of novels published by the likes of Kaplan and Barrons, are completely excluded.
