Michael Wood, C.S.C.S., a fifteen-year veteran of the fitness industry, was recently named Director of Strength and Conditioning at New England Sports Academy (NESA) located in Westwood, MA.
NESA is the brain-child of Henry Shterenberg who is also the owner of the Charles River Gymanstics Academy in West Roxbury, MA. Shterenberg's buisness model was to attract parents and children from surrounding communities and offer a "one stop shopping" approach applied to fitness.
What makes his facility unique is that while the children work on improving their skill for a particular sport, the parents can workout on their own or with a personal trainer in the 3,600 sq ft fitness facility under the direction of Wood and his staff.
The 40,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility opened it's doors in September 2003, focusing on athletic skill development for children of all ages. In addition to skill development for sports such as gymnastics, basketball, karate, boxing and soccer, NESA also offers sport-specific strength and conditoning programming for each of those sports. Wood, a former assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Connecticut, develops all sports related conditioning programs at NESA.
Before coming to NESA, Wood was director of the Sports Performance Group, a fitness consulting company that developed sports conditioning programs for athletes of all ages. In 2000 he was named top trainer in Boston by Boston Magazine.
Parents are attracted to NESA because they now have a facility that meets the needs of the family in addition to offering a high end service with top level coaching at an affordable price.
