Pleasantly Perfect Day at Santa Anita
Secured Entry and Richard Mandella both made history as the World Thoroughbred Championships returned to Santa Anita.
Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella became the first to win four Breeders Cup races on one card, including 14-1 shot Pleasantly Perfect, winner of the $4 million Classic.
Secured Entry debuted its proprietary scanning entry, showcasing commercials of eight of the major sponsors on large plasma screens, as ticket holders made their way in to see the richest day in horseracing. Some of the commercials shown on the plasma screens were premiering for the first time, released specifically for the Breeders Cups broadcast on NBC.
The customized portable entry with multiple gates, installed at the clubhouse, was designed to unobtrusively scan entrants for unauthorized items while allowing for a fast and steady flow of the attendees. It accomplished both goals combining discreet event scanning with proven event marketing.
In all, eight Breeders Cup races were run, but there were nine winners: In the first dead heat for the win spot in Breeders' Cup history, High Chaparral and Johar hit the line together in the Turf. High Chaparral won the Turf last year, and thus became the sixth horse to win two Breeders' Cup races.
Julie Krone became the first female jockey to win a Breeders' Cup race when the unbeaten Halfbridled won the Juvenile Fillies for Mandella.
Secured Entry won rave reviews as well from the attendees, local and federal authorities, and officials from Santa Anita Park, Oak Tree Racing Association, Breeders Cup and NTRA. Overall it was a great day for horseracing and horseracing fans along with Secured Entry and the Breeders' Cup Sponsors that included Bessemer Trust, Guinness, John Deere, Smirnoff, NetJets, Daily Racing Form, Cirque Du Soleil and Dodge.
