Online College Network Offers Recruiting Program To Students At No Cost

High school students can be promoted to colleges and universities at no cost using Internet technology. College recruiters and admissions personnel use this service to search verified student information in efforts to recruit them out of high school.

DALLAS, TEXAS (PRWEB) October 29, 2003 --- A brief segment by Dateline (NBC) last night brought light to online college recruiting services that charge a fee to students. Online College Network (OCN) is a recruiting program that is free to all high school students. It provides students with a place to learn how to build online resumes and keep track of their achievements based on their performance in the areas of academics, the arts, and athletics. Colleges currently have access to over 45,000 student resumes online via a password-protected, searchable database.

OCN is able to make it free to students because colleges and corporate sponsors underwrite the program. The OCN program was developed with the assistance of high school and college educators and coaches. By design, it increases the productivity of the college recruitment and admissions process, provides access to a more diverse student population, and enhances the yield of outreach programs. College counselors, directors and coaches access the database to identify talented students based on over 50 different individual characteristics in academics (ACT, SAT, GPA, class ranking, AP courses, etc.); fine arts (band, drama, drill team, etc.); and athletics. OCNs in-depth program has all NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA sports broken down by position for both men and women.

The OCN Process:
High school students enter their contact information, extracurricular activities, hobbies, honors, and awards, as well as achievements in academics, the arts, and/or athletics into the OCN database via the Internet -- beginning their freshman year.

High school faculty members verify each students data. Student resumes are stored in OCNs secured, password-protected database. College personnel can then search the database by specifying demographic, academic, art, and/or athletic criteria.

Search results consist of a list of students that match, or exceed, college search profiles (i.e., geographic location, graduation date, GPA, SAT/ACT, gender, ethnic background, athletic statistics, etc.). From these results, colleges can sort, access, and review individual student resumes.

OCN allows college personnel to penetrate target markets more efficiently by reaching students earlier in the recruiting process. In addition, the program enables colleges to monitor student contact and build personal relationships. College recruiters and admissions personnel can save prospective student resumes in a customized contact management database where they track student interactions.
