FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Music for America Re-launches Organization and Website to Rejuvenate Participatory Democracy and the Power of the Youth Vote

Music for America, a political nonprofit dedicated to exposing the connection between cultural events and political involvement, is re-launching their organization and website. Newly funded and staffed, MfA is poised to reve up the youth vote in 2004.

(PRWEB) October 29, 2003 -- Redwood City, California. Music for America, originally formed by a loose knit group of young Howard Dean supporters, explodes onto the scene today as a full-fledged political nonprofit working to strengthen the connection between the cultural lives of youth and the political process.

Before today's re-launch, the organization's founders spent most of their energy attending meet-ups and organizing concerts, comedy shows and spoken word events in cities like New York and Seattle, with the goal of introducing nonpolitical, uninformed youth to politics through cultural events.

"Politicians largely ignore young voters in this country and the issues that affect us most like media consolidation, the destruction of the environment and the failed war on terror. And when they do pay attention, they see us as one irrelevant block of voters with the same interests and same values. That is simply not the reality in today's youth culture," stated Michael Connery, one of the co-founders, when describing the impetus behind the organization.

"Music for America is here to represent the full spectrum of progressive young voters and issues that concern us as well as the wide range of independent artists that are out there today -from hip hop and electronica to americana and indie rock. This fusion of diverse audiences, music styles and issues at our shows and on our website is what will continue to inspire the younger voter to act - they will definitely have fun and meet great people while learning how to take action on issues that affect them. Knowledge can be all the inspiration they need before they decide to get involved," he continued.

Now that the organization is funded, has new digs in Redwood City, New York City and Seattle and a full time staff, they have the resources, the drive and the energy to make some real noise in the political and cultural arenas.

Today's re-launch of musicforamerica.com as a daily webzine boasts a new design, innovative functionality and fresh content. The new website is now home to many cool tools for music fans who may be interested in issues, for politicos who may love music or anyone who wants to find out more about the MfA movement.

The site will feature coverage of current political and cultural trends, cartoons from around the web and Flash games satirizing, among other things, the misadventures of President Bush. Putting the Music in MfA, there will be downloadable MP3s -- donated by generous artists, and updated each week -- as well as streaming audio and video from MfA events across the country. And finally, there will be action alerts informing visitors on where and how to get involved, and online tools to help younger voters organize their own MfA events.

Dan Droller, another MfA co-founder, best summarized the feeling behind today's re-launch and the group's vision for the future, "We want to accomplish some positive things for progressives in next year's elections and beyond by throwing some great parties. And everyone's invited."
