To Those in the Household of Onesiphorus
"May the LORD show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains." (2 Timothy 1:16)
PORTLAND, Ore., October, 2003 -- Church congregations have a simple way to remember Christians around the world who are persecuted for their faith in Christ -- with a letter-writing station in the church.
A letter-writing station can make it easy for people to mail cards and letters to their brothers-and-sisters-in-Christ and fulfill the command in the Bible to "remember my chains." (Colossians 4:18).
The letter-writing station can be as simple as a table in the foyer of the church stocked with postcards, stationary and prisoner addresses.
A free booklet is available, outlining simple steps church members can take to set up these small stations with materials readily available. There is also a file of postcards, ready to print. Download the booklet and postcard samples at www.orgsites.com/or/encourager
The concept is as simple as creating a poster and providing a box of postcards along with a list of prisoners addresses at the table. Prisoner addresses are available from organizations assisting the persecuted church, including Voice of the Martyrs, www.persecution.com. Cards can either be donated by church members, or created by Sunday school classes, or purchased with donations taken at the mail station.
Visit www.orgsites.com/or/encourager to download the booklet, get postcard ideas, or download postcards ready to use, at no charge, and create a station for your own church. The booklet and samples are provided completely free of charge to help Christians follow the directive of the apostle Paul to "Remember the prisoners as if chained with them--those who are mistreated--since you yourselves are in the body also." (Hebrews 13:3) and to follow Christ's own words, "I was in prison and you came to Me." (Matthew 25:36)
