techniques.org LLC, the industry leader in online training solutions for homeland security, emergency response and defense industries, today announced the upcoming release of knowledgeWorks for portals, a suite of portlets for eLearning delivery and tracking that leverage the recently finalized Java Portlet specification (JSR 168).
A portlet is a Java component that generates dynamic content for a page in a portal. A portal server uses portlets to provide the presentation layer to various information systems of interest to portal users. The JSR 168 Portlet Specification defines a standard interface that addresses information aggregation, personalization, presentation, and security between a portlet and the portal server. With JSR 168, portlets can be deployed to any portal that supports the specification. Every major portal vendor is expected to quickly support the Portlet specification.
In support of its product strategy that eLearning is supposed to save money", techniques.org will offer a suite of JSR 168-compliant eLearning portlets; priced at just $299.00 per portal server. With knowledgeWorks for portals, companies can add eLearning delivery and tracking capabilities to any portal with minimal cost and effort. Personalized eLearning features can help attract and maintain user interest in a portal. eLearning is a key employee self-service application that belongs in a enterprise information portal," said Timothy Potter, eLearning Architect at techniques.org LLC, and knowledgeWorks for portals has a clean architecture and simple pricing model to give customers a no-nonsense eLearning solution without having invest heavily in an LMS and integrating it into the portal."
Initially, knowledgeWorks for portals will include three portlets: 1) a portlet that allows users to launch SCORM 1.2 compliant courses and track their progress in each course; 2) a self-registration portlet that allows users to find and register for courses of interest, manage their online training transcript, and create PDF certificates of completion; and 3) an administration portlet that allows administrators to manage courses and generate eLearning reports for each course. The eLearning portlets will be available once the major portal server vendors support the JSR 168 specification later this year.
