Hillbilly Power: Webbed Feet and Banjoes Win the Day
Burringbar, Australia 30 Oct 2003. Hillbilly litigant pursues $24 tree incident to tens of thousands in legal costs
Burringbar, Australia. Watch out folks... It is really getting dangerous now. Litigation is being used by hillbillies instead of shotguns!
Douglas Powell, resident hillbilly litigant who has spent $100,000 of his families money in legal fees trying to stop old sheds worth $5,000 from being pulled down has done it again. He is now suing a local farmer and neighbour for $150,000 because a $24 pine tree was accidently knocked over on a property he doesn't own.
Living on his own at the end of an isolated valley, Mr Powell has single handedly been resisting all forms of progress or change from occuring anywhere near him.
He stated in relation to the current proceedings "These people have no respect at all for my rights or the value of conserving nature"
When questioned about the value of the tree to the cost of the cost case, he answered "That tree was worth a lot to me."
His brother, Lance Powell, spoke to this journalist and said "Well, he seemed happy to cut down and sell valuable Red Cedar trees that belonged to my other brother and myself. He is a complete pig, and should be served up as bacon next Christmas dinner."
Douglas has been fueding with his brothers and everyone else up his end of the valley for 12 years now. Using the insanity of a legal system that allows almost any case to be heard, Douglas has started no less that 28 separate legal battles, and lost almost every single one of them.
He even stabbed himself and blamed his sister-in-law in one instance. The Sister-in-Law stated "He only did it because I went out with his brother, and ignored him."
Yes, Hillbillies with Webbed Feet and Banjoes still exist, but now they are putting down the shotgun and picking up the lawyers.
Watch out folks! It's starting to get serious.
