Fences, by August Wilson, is a powerful drama of family values in the 1950s which resonates quite clearly in todays Cincinnati. A two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, Wilson tells the story of Troy Maxson, a storyteller himself, who learns the value of work and responsibility for ones family from his father, and the importance of education from his athletically talented son, Cory. Caught somewhere in the middle, Troy was denied opportunities in professional baseball himself, and is distrustful of the offers to play football Cory receives from a nearby college. Troys own pride and dignity cause him to put up both literal and figurative fences that affect his entire family.
All performances are in the Gallagher Student Center Theater at Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio. Tickets are $12 for Adults and $5 for Students and Seniors.
