Top Learning Experts Advocate New Model for Blended Learning Design

A newly released book about how to design blended learning (a mixture of traditional classroom and leading-edge online instruction) is receiving accolades from recognized learning experts. Among them is the chief learning officer and president of Motorola University.

(New York, NY) "Anyone who has designed excellent classroom training can quickly and easily learn how to design blended learning," claims Frank Troha, author of the newly released book, Bulletproof Blended Learning Design: Process, Principles and Tips (published by 1st Books). "All that's needed is my unique model, which outlines how to efficiently achieve the optimal mix of in-class and online learning activities, and some practice applying it."

Several renowned adult learning experts have been quick to agree, endorsing both Troha's book and model.

Fred Harburg, chief learning officer and president of Motorola University, describes the work as "highly concise, well organized and of potentially great benefit to learning professionals faced with the complex task of combining online and offline learning activities." He adds, "Within minutes of picking up your book, the soundness of the blended learning model you espouse becomes crystal clear."

Jerrold Kemp, author and professor emeritus of instructional technology at San Jose State University, writes, "I can't think of any publication that treats these two subjects -- classroom instruction and online instruction -- in coordinated fashion as you do."

Bob Little, editor and publisher of the Journal of the British Association for Open Learning, advises, "Anyone involved in developing blended learning materials -- from instructional designers to project managers -- should find Frank Troha's book of great value in providing an easy-to-follow formula for success."

Troha's three-part model begins with his proprietary 12-step process for designing a blended learning course. Overlaid on the 12-steps are: a.) Recent research findings that can help answer questions that often arise during design, e.g., "What is the recommended ratio of self-study time to instructor-led learning time?", and b.) Special tips relating to project management and quality control, e.g., "Develop and confirm a precise, comprehensive set of selection criteria before interviewing any outside providers."

Together, the process, research findings and tips combine to provide a blended learning design model that Troha, borrowing a phrase from Albert Einstein, says is "as simple as possible, but no simpler."

Additional information about the book and author is available through the publisher's website (www.1stbooks.com).
