Atlanta, October 17, 2003 -- Tri-State Broadband, Inc., a wireless systems integrator and provider of fixed wireless Internet access solutions for city & county governments, today announced the launch of Southlink.us" -- a last mile" high-speed broadband solution for the South Georgia city of Adel. The new system utilizes both non-line-of-sight (NLOS) and line-of-sight (LOS) wireless technology solutions, creating a Hybrid-Fiber-Wireless (HFW) city-owned network. The new service brings DSL and T-1 speeds to the City of Adel and the surrounding area residents and businesses.
With the new wireless broadband system, we now have the ability to bring high-speed Internet and other enhanced services such as video security to Adels businesses and residents," stated Adels Mayor, Richard Barr. Further, the City controls the pricing and availability. This is a big plus for attracting new businesses and jobs, and the residents are looking forward to the new services as well. In addition, we will be able to leverage the Citys investment in a previously-installed fiber network. This and the ability to drive additional revenue were major factors for us," added Mayor Barr.
The Southlink.us project was designed, engineered, and installed by Tri-State Broadband Inc, of Roswell, Georgia, which will also maintain the wireless system for the City. The project will bring symmetrical Internet connectivity speeds ranging from 256 Kbps to 10 Mbps to Adel and the Cook County area businesses and residents. In addition, the new system provides a platform for future enhanced services such as video security for monitoring critical utility sites.
Adels new system represents a growing trend for city governments, stated John Overley, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Tri-State Broadband. The system not only provides a new source of revenue to cities such as Adel, but also enables cities to quickly and easily deploy critical services for homeland security and other needs. Further," continued Overley, the non-line-of-sight feature is an essential component since many areas have tree coverage that cannot be penetrated with conventional line-of-sight wireless technologies."
We are very excited about having this state-of-the-art system in place," said Jerry Permenter, Adels City Manager. It will serve the community now, as well as into the foreseeable future, and it took less than 90-days from start to finish having the system installed and tested. That was impressive!," noted Permenter.
