Stanford University to Host U.S.-Russia Technology Symposium

The Stanford Institute for International Studies and Graduate School of Business will host the U.S.-Russia Technology Symposium (USRTS), an investor conference on Russias technology sector, on January 29-30, 2004.

Stanford, CA (PRWEB) November 4, 2003 -- The Stanford Institute for International Studies and Graduate School of Business will host the U.S.-Russia Technology Symposium (USRTS), an investor conference on Russias technology sector, on January 29-30, 2004. William Perry, former Secretary of Defense, and Andrei Kokoshin, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, will serve as Co-Chairs of the symposium. USRTS will promote expanded bilateral trade relations between the United States and Russia in the technology sector.

Enjoying economic growth of 4.3 percent in 2002, Russia is well positioned to become a major player in the increasingly global technology industry. The event will provide an opportunity for industry leaders in both countries to network and cooperate in the fields of information technology, biotechnology, semiconductors, homeland security, and defense conversion.

Official sponsors of USRTS include industry giants IBM and Microsoft Corporation and venture capital firms Asset Management Company and Landbridge Capital.

Speakers include former Secretary of Defense William Perry, venture capitalists Bill Draper, Brook Byers, and Pitch Johnson, and Intels Sean Maloney among other Silicon Valley leaders. Their Russian counterparts include Anatoly Karachinsky of International Business Systems; Andrei Fursenko, First Deputy Minister of Industry, Science, and Technology; and Dmitry Zimin of VimpelCom.

Attendees will participate in panel discussions led by Davos-level speakers, such as Esther Dyson, Chair of EDventure Holdings. Topics to be covered include sources of new technologies; international aspects of innovation; and infrastructure for the commercialization of new technology, including venture investment opportunities and capital markets, auditing, and legal issues.
