Lockers installed for Papworth Hospital NHS Trust Theatres Department
Lockers have been replaced and installed in Papworth Hospital NHS Trust to improve working conditions for staff
(PRWEB) November 5, 2003 --New staff lockers were required for the Theatres department at Papworth Hospital NHS Trust as part of a refurbishment program to the staff changing rooms. Gavin Bacon, ODP manager, called in Action Storage Systems to help create a staff locker system that served the needs of the staff in respect of convenience of use and security.
Firstly Gavin was very enthusiastic to improve the visual aspects of the changing rooms. The staff had endured a fairly dreary facility up until this improvement, and the big difference was the introduction of different coloured doors on the lockers. When this was combined with improved lighting and general refurbishment of the area, it gave staff a far more pleasant start to their working day.
The locking system was considered carefully, and the decision was to adopt a swivel catch system with padlocks. There is some administration involved, as each member of staff is issued with a numbered compartment and a padlock. However, the capital cost was far less than coin return locks and it ensured that each member of staff is responsible for their own storage space.
Coat rail with captive hangers, has been fixed between the banks of lockers to allow garment hanging. At a lower lever there are shoe bars for the storage of outdoor footwear.
Benches were provided to make shoe changing easier. These were the standard steel framed units with varnished timber slatted seats.
Last but not least, cleanliness and hygiene play a vital role in hospital management, and lockers can be harbingers of dust and grime at the tops. Therefore, sloping tops to the lockers were designed into the system to prevent casual storage of personal effects on the top as well as a build up of unseen dust.
There are a number of additional accessories that could have been built into the design of the lockers, however it is always the case that we have to work to a finite amount of money. Our aim is to provide the best possible solution within the clients budget. The improvements on this site in both the male and female changing rooms have been greatly appreciated by the staff and will last for many years.
