Lenape descendant Pennsylvania Humanities Speaker for 2004 -- 2005.
Carla Messinger, Lenape descendant, Director of Native American Heritage Programs in Allentown, PA will be a Pennsylvania Humanities Speaker for 2004 -- 2005. Messinger had served as an Executive Director of local Native American Museum for 25 years.
She received honors and awards for her work as a cultural educator--especially for the professional development made possible by numerous Museum and Educator Services scholarships from the Department of the Interior and the Smithsonian. She serves on conference panels, authored articles for newspapers and magazines such as "Instructor" (U.S.) and "The Turtle Islander" (U.K.), and been interviewed by "USA Today," National Public Radio, the BBC, and by local and regional press, radio, and television. As a consultant, she works with various organizations in the United States and Europe. Regularly offering workshops and presentations in England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, and Norway, and she continues to serve as a Cultural Advisor for the International North American Indian Association in the United Kingdom.
