Berkeley, CA (PRWEB) November 5, 2003 -- Can you haiku? Throw us a line!
USATODAY.com publishes a different reader-composed haiku each weekday. What's haiku? The ancient form of Japanese poetry is composed of three lines, with five syllables in the first, seven syllables in the second and five syllables in the third.
Every Friday, one randomly selected haiku winner will receive a recently published book. The prize awarded on Friday, November 14 will be a copy of THE TAO OF PUG (Viking Studio, $19.95) by Wilson the Pug with Nancy Levine.
What does a pint-size pug dog have to teach people about ancient Chinese wisdom? Quite a bit if hes Wilson the Pug. You see Wilson is a direct descendent of Pug Tzu, the canine companion of Lao Tzu, author of the Tao-te Ching. Wilson and his human companion and photographer, Nancy Levine, have teamed up to create THE TAO OF PUG (On-Sale: September 29, 2003; Viking Studio; ISBN: 0-670-03258-1; Price: $19.95; Pages: 96), a delightful and whimsical look at one of the worlds best known Eastern philosophical texts-from the perspective of one of the most adorable breeds of canine-the pug.
Many pugs have captured our hearts- from Frank the pug in "Men in Black" to Otis, the pug from "The Adventures of Milo and Otis"-just to name a few. Now, here comes Wilson to join the gang and to prove that pugs are more than just a pretty scrunched up face-they are also wise philosophers who can open our minds to the most important principles and life lessons of the Tao.
With 81 beautifully lush, black and white photographs THE TAO OF PUG features intriguing poses from the lovable Wilson (in his trademark yin-yang coat), along with memorable quotes from the Tao-te Ching and Wilsons own interpretations. It is sure to be a hit with pug enthusiasts, dog lovers of all kinds, and those who enjoy a light and humorous look at life and spiritual wisdom.
