AttachTracker for Outlook Solves Attachment Problems

The problems caused by email attachments, the files attached to email messages, are obvious to business users. Their IT managers are even more weary of files that proliferate and hog large amounts of disk space. AddOnMail, a leading French developper of messaging management solutions for Microsoft Outlook and Exchange has released AttachTracker, a new Outlook 2003 plug-in that cleverly solves these problems by saving mailing information with the attached files rather than with the message.

MEUDON LA FORET, FRANCE (PRWEB) November 6, 2003 -- Sometimes a good solution seems obvious once someone thinks of it. Wise men have always warned us against material attachments but the problems caused by email attachments, the files attached to email messages, are obvious to business users.

PROBLEMS: There is no good method to keep track of the mailing information of a file received by email as an attachment. The only way to find out when, by whom and to whom a file was sent, is to save all messages with attachments and trudge though all of them to retrieve that information. The problem is the same for messages sent by the user.

Good CYA protocol, and legal requirements often demand that a mailing audit of a file be available. The practice of extracting and storing attachments creates duplicate versions of files if the originals are also kept for mailing reference. They cause serious confusion and versionning problems when multiple users access copies of documents from different sources.

IT managers and email admins simply hate attachements; not only for their virus carrying potential but also for the amount of storage space they consume. Some companies even forbid them at the cost of complicating and impeding business. CC'ed recipients multiply each instance of an attachment. In collaborative environments, large graphic files start breeding like rabbits when they are forwarded, clogging hard disks and bloating pst (Outlook) files to unstable sizes.

SOLUTION: AttachTracker solves these problems with a deceptively simple solution. It writes the mailing information into the file properties, where it really belongs, in a new tab in the properties box.

Users can now retrieve the mailing information: date, recipients, sender's address, even a notice of modification since the last mailing, simply by right clicking on a file name and selecting the AttachTracker tab in the properties box.

This feature alone alleviates the need to save the original message and all its associated confusion opportunities. Coupled with AddOnMail existing compaction software, PSTManager, AttachTracker delivers a complete solution that allows the transparent recovery of wasted disk space once the messages have been deleted.

FEATURES: AttachTracker runs on Window NT/2000/XP with Outlook 2000/XP/2003.
Version 2, due in Q4 2003, will add new features such as a stand-alone (outside Outlook) log of all attachement mailing activities, transparent replacement of attachments in sent messages with a link, and automatic triggering of other tracking functions.

AVAILABILITY AND PRICING: AttachTracker is available now by downloading from the AddOnMail website at www.addonmail.com. Prices for a 5-user license start at $100. Multiple licences pricing from 5 to 10,000 and more are available.
