New S.F. Theatre Company Opens With David Sedaris's Santaland Diaries.

SteinBeck Presents starts its company off with a bang! Santaland Diaries is based on David Sedaris's short story of the same name. It recounts his time spent working as an elf in Macy's Santaland! Totally hilarious...a must see for Sedaris fans everywhere.

This holiday season, San Franciscos newest theatre company, SteinBeck Presents gives the gift of laughter from Americas premier humorist. David Sedaris creates a brilliant evocation of Christmas as seen from the other side ...through the eyes of a Macys elf. Our hero confronts the screaming children, bossy parents, flaky elves, and apathetic Santas with hilarious results!

A sardonic, merrily subversive tale -- just the antidote to bright-eyed joy before too many shopping days have passed. Worth more than a photo album full of Santas!"
                        -- New York Newsday

San Francisco actor John Michael Beck reprises his 2002 role as the voyeuristic David who chronicles his personal tale of a holiday unlike any other.

Actor John Michael Beck...hilariously mine[s] the myriad humiliations...effectively highlight[s] the fact that here in one spangled orgy of relentless seasonal joy dwells all the Christmas spirit that money can buy."
                        --The Metro (San Jose)

SteinBeck Presents is proud to announce that Jeffrey Hartgraves has signed on to direct Santaland Diaries. Having worked in the Bay Area as an actor, director and writer (among other positions), Jeffreys latest directorial production of A Beautiful Man was named BEST OF FRINGE 2003!

Housed at the Shelton Theater (533 Sutter Street -- www.sheltontheater.com), Santaland Diaries will open Friday, December 5 and play Wednesdays-Sundays through December 21. Weekday and Saturday performances start at 8pm with Sunday performances starting at 7pm. Tickets are $20. Call 415.846.3424 for reservations or ticket purchases.

Craig Stein and John Michael Beck recently founded SteinBeck Presents this past summer. Their goal is simple: produce theatre that is fun and entertaining for the audience! It has also been their dream to bring this company together not only for themselves but also for other artists to congregate and commune.
