New Left-Wing Boycott of CBS Gaining Momentum
In response to CBS's cowardly cancelation of 'The Reagans' miniseries under pressure from the far-right, thousands of outraged Americans have signed onto a new boycott of the network, which seeks to pressure them into broadcasting the program as originally planned. Participants seek to 'turn the screws' on CBS (www.ScrewsOnCBS.com) by refusing to watch the network throughout the critical November sweeps period. With over 24000 visits to the site in its first two days, and over 4000 signatures recorded, it threatens to outpace the earlier right-wing boycott, and send a stern message to CBS.
In response to the CBS's cowardly and unprecedented actions in canceling its multi-million dollar miniseries 'The Reagans' under heavy pressure from the far-right, thousands of citizens concerned about the integrity of the mainstream media have rallied with a boycott of their own.
Despite very little publicity, "Turn the Screws on CBS," (www.ScrewsOnCBS.com) a new website launched on November 5th, recorded over 4000 petition signatures and nearly 25000 hits on its first two days. This overwhelming response indicates the outrage and frustration that regular Americans feel toward the far-right following this lamentable incident.
The site demands CBS restore the integrity of network television by broadcasting the movie they originally envisioned and approved, before a right-wing attack campaign--led by conservative Fox News and the Republican establishment--intimidated them into canceling it. Created by a graduate student with no political experience or connections, "Turn the Screws" is, in contrast, truly a grass-roots effort.
"Turn the Screws on CBS" calls on viewers to boycott CBS throughout the November sweeps period, and to boycott all subsidiaries of Viacom, CBS's parent corporation, for the remainder of the month as well.
With the already tremendous response only gaining momentum, CBS will be getting the message that their cowardly capitulation to political partisans will not stand.
