Dekart Integrates Biometric Authentication into Its Ultra-Fast, 128 Bit, On-The-Fly Disk Encryption
Dekart announces the release of a new version of Dekart Private Disk -- the Disk Encryption software for Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. With its true multi-layer authentication functionality, Dekart Private Disk creates and manages encrypted virtual volumes on a computers hard drive and/or other external storage devices.
Dekart Private Disk creates virtual encrypted disks on a computers hard drive and/or other external storage devices. Once a user creates a virtual encrypted disk, that disk is assigned a new drive letter and appears to the user like any other system drive (like the A: or C: drive). When the disk is mounted, the data is automatically encrypted and decrypted when the user writes or reads this data respectively. Dekart Private Disk encrypts and decrypts all data stored on the encrypted disk with virtually no performance penalty. When Dekart Private Disk is unmounted, either manually or by logging out of Windows, the secure data it contains becomes completely unreadable.
Dekart Private Disk utilizes a combined hardware, software and biometric approach in order to secure your computer and information. To work with the encrypted volume you have to provide the following: password and/or PIN code (something you know), USB token or smart card (something you have), and fingerprint or other biometric attribute (something you are). This level of security cannot be achieved through simple password based solutions.
Dekart Private Disk utilizes 128-bit AES encryption to provide transparent on-the-fly encryption of sensitive information. All Dekart encryption implementations have been certified by the NIST as conforming to the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm, which is most widely accepted and acknowledged encryption algorithm.
