JACKIE KENNEDY PLAY COVERS AMERICA
SIMULTANEOUS SCRIPT READING AROUND AMERICA MARKS PREMIERE PLAY FOR 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF KENNEDY ASSASSINATION
For the 40th anniversary of the assassination of United States President, John F. Kennedy, theatre locations around the country will be hosting a one-night staged reading Sunday, Nov 23, of the new play "JACKS" by playwright Lys Anzia. "JACKS" is the chilling story of Jacqueline Kennedy as she witnessed the events following the murder of her husband. Dramatist Lys Anzia, of Boulder, Colorado, spent 10 years researching and writing the play which has never been performed before.
"I have always been intrigued by Jacqueline Kennedy." Anzia said. "It was astonishing for me to realize when Jacqueline's husband was killed she was only 34 years old. There is much the public does not know about this story. Much that needs to be told."
Stories of the "JACKS" productions around the country are growing.
In South Pasadena, California, Fremont Centre Theatre "JACKS" director James Reynolds has 20 years experience with NBC as the character Abe on the show "Days of Our Lives". In 1991, on NBC's show, "Generations", Reynolds was nominated for an Emmy as outstanding lead actor in a drama series.
Theatres from Wellesley, Massachusetts to Baton Rouge, Louisiana are picking up production of the script for this event.
Supported by The National Endowment for the Arts, Foothill Theatre Company near Lake Tahoe, California, is also hosting "JACKS" for the one-night event. With an annual budget of more than $700,000 Foothill employs over 100 contracted actors a year selling approximately 25,000 theatre tickets annually.
Before the performance in Boulder, Colorado, Evelyn Kaye, writer for The New York Times, Travel & Leisure Magazine and former journalist for Reuters News Agency in Paris, will talk about meeting Jackie Kennedy in 1961 when Jackie arrived in Paris for that famous meeting with France's president Charles de Gaulle. In Boulder the play is sponsored by The Boulder Media Women, an informal group of more than 200 writers, authors, publishers, editors agents and others working in the media. The theatre director for "JACKS" in Boulder is Stephen Lavezza. Lavezza has worked for The Denver Center for the Performing Arts and directed a number of productions for The Denver Civic Theatre.
The play premiere will be performed in Colorado as a staged reading at 4pm Sunday Nov 23 at the Boulder Public Library Auditorium Theatre, 1100 Canyon Blvd.
In the late 1970's, "JACKS" playwright, Lys Anzia, worked for Pacifica Radio in Washington, D.C. Later, for National Public Radio she produced the radio show "BookTalk". She was the first woman on the programming board for Public TV Channel 12, KBDI, in Denver, Colorado. Currently, Anzia is working on one book of nonfiction and two other historical plays.
