Private School without Lab Facilities Finds Online Lab System
New technology to provide important lab experience for grades six through eight in Indiana private school Science teacher sought lab experience for students in school without lab facilities.
Crown Point Christian School has chosen ParaComps Smart Science education system to provide laboratory experience to its students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Forty six of the nearly 75 available labs have been chosen by Larry Koontz, Crown Points science teacher. The science areas covered by these labs include data analysis, periodic motion, waves, electricity, speed and acceleration, statics, biology, heat, sound, earth science and chemistry.
Mr. Koontz viewed the Smart Science remote live demonstration and decided that the system would provide the lab experience his students required. Crown Points facilities do not include laboratories, but do include a modern computer lab.
Dr. Harry Keller, ParaComps President, said, Our low cost solution to providing computer-based laboratory experience fit their needs extremely well. Smaller schools have difficulty justifying the high costs of building laboratory classrooms. With Smart Science labs, students receive all of the significant benefits of a laboratory without the expense, cost and safety problems."
Natalie Mantel, Crown Points technical director was pleased with the installation because she doesn't have to perform updates. A Smart Science Accelerator (small web server) was installed at Crown Point and is updated automatically from ParaComp's headquarters in California. The Accelerator overcomes the uncertainty of Internet connections by providing a fast and reliable source for the Smart Science labs.
Edwin Mulder, Crown Points principal is happy that his students can get the benefits of lab experience without the high costs normally associated with science laboratories and experiments.
ParaComps Smart Science labs use real experiments to teach students to observe phenomena, collect data, and select and test hypotheses as they work to identify the principles involved. Not only do these labs teach science, they teach the process of science.
