"The Naked Mind", a fascinating new book, describes intriguing insights into the deadly influence and danger of various ideologies in society.

All democratic pluralistic societies buffeted by conflicting ideologies, inevitably engage in cultural wars. "The Naked Mind" explores the deadly role of these ideologies and describes their role in diverse social political arenas ranging from tensions arising from science, religion, evolution and creation, church and state, homosexuality, the conversion and beatification of Edith Stein - while being the only person to uncover the reasons for her conversion, world-wide religiously induced hate, anti-Semitism, medicine and education. As a result of his analyses, Dr. Gottlieb develops the concept of the Goebbels Award, a trophy to be presented to media personnel, statespeople and countries for their role in the dissemination of hate and discusses his nominees for this infamous honor. To counter the deadly influence of these ideologies, Dr. Gottlieb develops a progressive outline for a modern integrated K-12 education program based on science and reason.

The fascinating and unique insights into the deadly influence of various conflicting ideologies on current social and political issues confronting society, derived form the personal experiences of a professional educator, research scientist, and social and political activist is clearly and powerfully described in Dr. Sheldon Gottliebs highly readable book, "The Naked Mind" with its imaginatively intriguing subtitle: If You Cant eat It, Drink It, or Screw It, I aint Interested.

"The Naked Mind" is a must read for all people who are interested in diminishing social and political tensions arising from the differing interests of societys various religious, racial, sexual and ethnic groups, overcoming irrationality, improving the attitudes and reporting of the media, promoting concepts of individuality and freedom and promoting intergroup tolerance and respect now and forever.

To develop his subject, Dr. Gottlieb ranges over a wide variety of seemingly disparate subjects. Yet, as a result of his penetrating analyses, these topics are shown to be profoundly related in a social and political context.

The anti-intellectualism, rigidity of thinking and the ensuing arrogance of ignorance arising in young people resulting from their indoctrination with religious fundamentalism early in life is strikingly demonstrated by Gottliebs captivating retelling of discussions between him and his students.

The anti-intellectual theme is further developed by his different and unusual approach to describing the evolution creation controversy. He develops the theme of the deadly affects of irrational beliefs on social turmoil by getting into church-state issues such as Judge Moore and the Ten Commandments as well as those issues arising out of anti-Semitism. Dr. Gottlieb describes the effects of this social disease on his growth and development as well as on that of his and other peoples children.

His interesting analyses of the effects of religiously inspired hate led him to develop the Goebbels Award, a trophy to be presented to media personnel, statespeople, including the leadership of countries for their role in the dissemination of hate. His discussion of his nominees for this infamous honor involves some surprising individuals and organizations. His deeply informative analysis of Tom Brokaws book, The Greatest Generation provides a completely different understanding of the book than what has been popularly portrayed.

In pursuing the central theme of the book, Gottlieb analyzed papal documents such as those pertaining to the exoneration of Galileo and Nostra Aetate - the relationship of the Roman Catholic Church to other religions, especially Judaism, and his reexamining the trial of Jesus and the conversion and beatification of Edith Stein. As a result of his investigation into Edith Stein, Gottlieb becomes the only person ever to uncover the reasons for her conversion.

Gottlieb explores other areas of social interactions as they are affected negatively by ideologies by discussing aspects of terrorism, second amendment rights and, in the field of medicine, the treatment of multiple sclerosis.

To combat the deadly influence of ideologies, Gottlieb ends by proposing an integrated rational K-12 curriculum based on science and reason.
