(30 minutes, $29.95) focuses on events that led up to the Pearl Harbor bombing on December 7, 1941, during a time when the United States was divided on the issue of isolationism, as opposed to intervention, while Europe was engulfed in what would become World War II.. Could we have been better prepared to cope with Japans stunning blow to our navy at Pearl Harbor? Were there warning signs that President Franklin D. Roosevelt could have heeded? WWII: HOME FRONT USA" (30 minutes, $29.95) explores the ways in which everyday life in America changed after Pearl Harbor. In 1942, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. Over 100,000 Japanese Americans were forcibly removed from their homes and relocated to internment camps. Although the United States --was involved in a war that it had tried to avoid, the nation rose to the challenge that wove a pattern of sacrifice and sorrow, intermingled with gratefulness for the end of the Great Depression. Endured were shortages of meat and other essential foods; rationing of necessary commodities such as rubber, gasoline and all scarce items that were needed to support our troops overseas; and metal and paper scrap drives. The black market became a reality. Vegetable victory gardens signified patriotism. Women became an integral part of the work force in factories, war plants and in the military, as men overseas fought Axis powers, Germany and Japan.
WWII: MINORITY UNITS - Profiles of Courage & Sacrifice" (30 minutes, $29.95) focuses on the indomitable spirit and efforts of minority groups who fought a two front war. The enlightening video highlights the careers of West Points first African-American graduate, Benjamin O. Davis, Jr., Dorie Miller, African-American naval hero at Pearl Harbor; and Native American Ira Hayes, U.S. Marine, who helped raise the flag at Iwo Jima.
WWII: THE ATOMIC BOMB -- The End or The Beginning?"(30 minutes, $29.95) This compelling video depicts the pivotal events that proceeded President Trumans final effort to end World War II. The tension rises as the decision is made to test the Atomic Bomb at Alamogordo, NM. After years of research and development, Robert Oppenheimer and General Leslie Groves, together with lesser-known key players, were about to realize the actual results of their secret Manhattan Project that was destined to alter the course of history. From Albert Einstein to Harry S. Truman, whose task it was to make the ultimate decision, all played a significant role in that fateful flight of the Enola Gay piloted by Colonel Paul Tibbets on August 6, 1945. After the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Russia and China enter the nuclear age.
