CaRP Evolution adds plugin support to RSS newsfeed parser

A new version of CaRP (Caching RSS Parser), CaRP Evolution, adds support for third-party plugins to this popular tool for importing RSS newsfeeds into websites.

OREM, Utah--11 November 2003--Mouken, L.C. announces the latest addition to their line of webmaster tools for working with RSS newsfeeds: CaRP Evolution. CaRP Evolution builds on the popular CaRP RSS parser, adding to it support for plugins, both from Mouken, L.C. and third parties. The existing free and commercial versions of CaRP have also received an upgrade, adding new capabilities for displaying dates and URLs from newsfeeds.

"CaRP Evolution is the latest, greatest step in the evolution of CaRP," says programmer Antone Roundy. "It fills in the missing link between simple newsfeed display, and extremely robust newsfeed manipulation by enabling CaRP to mutate into pretty much whatever form you need through the use of plugins. Features that never would have made it into the main product can be added as needed without the risk of feature bloat. It's a very exciting development."

The initial release of CaRP Evolution includes a single plugin for adding "access keys" to headline links. Access keys enable website visitors to quickly select and "click" links without having to reach for their mouse. For example, if the access key "N" is assigned to a link (which may be indicated by underlining, enclosing the N in brackets, etc.), a Windows user could select the link by typing alt-N, or a Macintosh user, by typing control-N. Though the feature is still unknown to many webmasters, access keys are supported by most modern web browsers.

Additional plugins are planned for adding complex filtering, mySQL database access, and other features to CaRP Evolution.

Pricing and Availability:

CaRP is available in three versions: a free (GPL) version which supports all of the basic features, a full-featured version for $9.95, and CaRP Evolution, priced at $18.95.

Both versions are available via the Mouken, L.C. website [http://www.mouken.com/rss/carp/].
