NEW YORK -- The Law and Policy Group, Inc. will honor actor/activist Mr. Danny Glover as well as human rights organizations Human Rights Watch and International Bridges to Justice at a champagne reception on November 15, 2003 at 7:00pm.
Mr. Danny Glover will receive the James Baldwin Award in recognition of his human rights work in the United States, Africa, and the African Diaspora. Mr. Glover is a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador. He worked tirelessly against apartheid in South Africa. Today, his work includes raising awareness about the AIDS pandemic in Africa and the United States. James Baldwin was an acclaimed writer and activist for social justice.
Human Rights Watch will receive the Stalwart Award in recognition of a tradition of dedicated service to international human rights and social justice. For decades, Human Rights Watch has advocated on behalf of political prisoners, war refugees, torture victims, minority groups, and the unjustly accused, worldwide. Human Rights Watch has fought for the Rule of Law by monitoring the actions of world leaders, reporting human rights abuses, and assisting in the release of human rights activists.
International Bridges to Justice will receive The Young Lion Award in recognition of its pivotal contribution to social justice demonstrated in a limited period of time. International Bridges to Justice is dedicated to ensuring the basic legal rights of ordinary citizens in Cambodia, China, and Vietnam by working to guarantee a right to competent legal representation, protection from cruel and unusual punishment, and a fair trial
The Law and Policy Group, Inc.'s Awards Reception will take place on Saturday, November 15, 2003, at RUSH Arts Gallery, 526 W. 26th Street (10-11th Aves.) in the Chelsea Arts Center of Manhattan. The time of the event is 7:00pm. This year's theme is "Striving for International Justice."
